Magic City Fly FishersBillings chapter of Trout Unlimited
The Magic City Fly Fishers chapter of Trout Unlimited was officially organized on January 9, 1990 in Billings, Montana. It is one of thirteen Trout Unlimited chapters in Montana, serving south central and southeastern Montana, and currently has over 600 members. MCFF is a non-profit organization, governed by the Chapter By Laws that were approved when it was first organized. A Board of Directors establishes the policies of the Chapter and oversees the conduct of business and activities on behalf of the members. MCFF holds monthly membership meetings, September though June, with each meeting featuring a guest program. MCFF also publishes a monthly newsletter, The Hackle Bender.

Mike Arnold, Fisheries Manager for Monster Lake Ranch, situated just outside Cody, takes us on a tour of Monster Lake including the fishing and hunting opportunities. Great Rockies Sports Show – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 19 – 21, 2018. Magic City Fly Fishers has two booths for this year’s show. We help kids learn to tie flies, visit with folks about fly fishing, Trout Unlimited, and MCFF, and sell raffle tickets to raise funds for our youth projects an conservation. Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T), Wednesday, January 31, 2018, Babcock Theater, 7pm, discount tickets at Rich’s East Rosebud Fly Shop. Your TU chapter will be there talking about Magic City Fly Fishers and raising funds for youth, conservation, public lands, and access. February 6, 2018 MCFF Membership meeting featuring West Yellowstone outfitter and guide, Alice Owsley. Alice is the owner of Riverside Anglers. Join us to hear Alice talk about the great fishing in the West Yellowstone area including what to expect this year in Yellowstone National Park. Alice will also discuss her always popular women’s fly fishing camps. If you saw Alice a couple of years ago at our Spring Runoff event, you know this night will be fun. New location for this time – Scheels Conference Center.
Missouri River Fly Fishing Trip, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 1 – 3; just laying the plans. Several options to fish and have fun. Beau McFadyean, owner and outfitter of Montana Adventures and Angling, furnished experienced Missouri River guides to all who wanted one last year – and will do the same this year. May 1, 2018 is the Magic City Fly Fishers Banquet and Auction, Billings Depot. This is our TU major fundraiser for the year. Tickets will go on sale in February. We sold out last year – over 220 people attended and had a great time. The evening features a live auction, silent auction, several raffle boards, great prizes including fabulous fly fishing trips, our traditional beer mug promotion, a cash bar, information booths, and wonderful dinner. Start putting your table friends together now. All proceeds go to support native Yellowstone cutthroat, youth activities, education opportunities, access, Casting For Recovery, and conservation projects in Montana and the Yellowstone region.

Dover is on the Yellowstone River, about 3 miles east of Lake Elmo. Joel's Pond is directly behind (east) of Scheels. Both projects have Montana FWP support in developing these into good, Billings urban fisheries.
